Rugby in Samoa is governed by Lakapi Samoa, formerly known as the Samoa Rugby Union Inc (which was founded in 1924) and is a member of Oceania Rugby and World Rugby. In 2016, rugby become an Olympic Sport, which was a catalyst in Lakapi Samoa becoming a member of the Samoa Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (SASNOC).
The key responsibilities of Lakapi Samoa include management of the National teams (including the Manu Samoa and Manusina), administration of our national competitions, and participation in international competitions including Test matches, as well as assisting with the development of the wider community. Its purpose is to lead and encourage rugby in Samoa; its vision is to inspire excellence and leadership through rugby with the mission of creating rugby opportunities that will ignite passion and prosperity for all Samoans. Lakapi Samoa’s priorities are to grow the game; to inspire winning national teams; to build Lakapi Samoa’s brand; to secure commercial sustainability; and to empower Lakapi Samoa as an organization and leading sporting body in Samoa.
